I just spent a week and a half in California. I was there with my wife for a little vacation and to judge the Nike 6.0 HB BMX Pro and the X-Games. It was a long trip and I was able to see a lot of amazing things get done.
Both Craig Mast and Josh Perry were in the Nike contest. Josh let loose his barspin-catch-barspin to whip, all in a 360. He fell short of the finals but still rode great. Craig made it to the finals with some hard moves like triple tailwhips and perfect front flip flairs but one of my favorite stunts of the whole weekend was his 360 tailwhip to can-can. It was dialed.
Out side of the contest one of the best things I saw was Dave Brumlow pet a small dog and the mustache of the person holding the dog at the same time. Needless to say the guy and his mustache were not amused. The dog was fine with it though.
After the Nike contest, Katie and I went to Long Beach for a night and stayed in the worst hotel ever. The carpet turned your feet black with in five minutes of walking on it. It was good to get to the X-games hotel and have a clean carpet. And I was here to Judge the X-Games so that was good too. I’m sure by now you’ve seen the action on TV so there’s no need to go into a lot of detail. It was good to have a guys repping Eastern in there. Josh Perry was just shy of making the finals but still turned some heads with his progressive riding. Jimmy Walker was rocking a Grim Reaper and placed 4th in Vert. Congrats man!
The trip was over and it’s time to get back to work. We are finishing up the 2010 catalog and starting to get things wrapped up for the Death of Fun video so be on a lookout for both. Enjoy the photos below.

Craig Mast in practice at the HB Pro contest

One of the great perks to judging is riding the course in practice.

Josh whipping the big, long box.

The US Open was going on that the same time. The waves were big!

I got steady clips thanks to this tripod.

Dave Brumlow knows how to make friends.

We got to see Throne's band, Good Guys in Black one night after the X-Games.

And we also saw MJ's star on Hollywood Blvd. People are paying respect for sure.

My camera kept blurring up everytime I shot a photo of the street course.

The Vert Ramp was in a great spot but the judges tower was pretty high.
