2010 Sneak-peek

Posted in Featured News by Leigh Ramsdell

Here's a sneak peek of Eastern Bike's new tubing XHelix (Cross Helix) that will be on our 2010 after-market frames and a few completes. It's 30% stonger than double-butted tubing.

Looks like a piece of Primo Wall tyre!!! Eastern, you need to stop trying so hard, no-ones testing you on how many innovation per day you can knock out :)

jack says...

isnt that design just pressed into the metal, meaning there is still the same amount of metal and therefore it wont have the weight advantage of double butted and also the stress releving properties

Posted at 8:59 a.m. on May 16, 2009

JT says...

Its not presses in the metal its ridges the intersect each other thus making it stronger with out add alot of weight, so in laymans terms IT THE SHIZNIT

The amount of kids that are going to fall for this is incredible. ITS JUST PRESSED METAL! You guys need to stop trying so hard to increase sales. Maybe work on improving your existing products, ever think that doing that would increase sales?

Posted at 3:52 a.m. on May 17, 2009

ummmm says...

how would it possibly increase the strength, its bloody metal with grooves cut out. someone explain scientifically how it creates 30% more strength

Posted at 6:21 a.m. on May 17, 2009

are you retarded says...

im could talk about how it distributes the stress and all but it really dont worry about it. 30% stronger is a vague claim. how so torsional strength, tensile strength, higher yield point? like come on why all the goofy gimicks eastern. if it didnt cost any extra sure i would want my frame to have that but im pretty content ridin a straight tubed seamless frame

Mike Corely says...

I will be putting up more info later this week when I have time, but to put it in the most basic terms. It is not just pressed metal it is like taking a normal double butted chromoly tube and adding somewhat of a ribcage to the inside. The tubing is actually thicker where the ribs are increasing strength.

Posted at 3:20 p.m. on May 18, 2009

blim says...

correect me if i'm wrong, but is this the same principle as making riges on a piece of paper or cardboard to make it more rigid? The design looks cool, and I bet it will increase streght, but have you considered putting the designg on the outside of the tubing, also will this be conbined with lightning rod tubing? Any hopes of bringing back the Ti product line?

Posted at 4:43 p.m. on May 18, 2009

bmx tec says...

It's is a welded, not a drawn tube? And is it still butted? I can def see the advantage in the strength to weight of the tube, but if it weren't butted wouldn't it decrease the material at the weld point and the strength of the weld? Looking forward to hearing some more.

Posted at 12:42 a.m. on May 19, 2009

terrible says...

i think they have cut metal out to save weight, but dont want to let anyone know that so they pretend it makes it stronger, then when there completes come out they will be like EASTERN TRAILDIGGER 200GRAMS LIGHTER THAN LAST YEARS AND 30 % STRONGER

i like the fact that they try THAT hard to make light stuff only to proceed to put a solid steel sprocket on it..

guys it is not pressed in. it is added to the metal

Jon Byers says...

II, I don't know where you are getting your info... This definitely won't be coming on a traildigger.. A traildigger is an entry level bike meant for an entry level rider. This tubing is more expensive and it would be used on higher end products. Our pursuit of new ideas and projects is nothing new.. half of the stuff is never shown to the public. And Wowza, you are right.. a few hours pumping w/ your boys at the gym would afford you to ride a heavier stead.

killingdynos says...

byers is right just go to the gym. or just get used to a heavier bike, i go to the gym once a week and it helps out alot. yall should do the same if your gunna complain. or chop your seatpost and dripp holes in your bars under your grips.

The Butcher says...

its not added or pressed, its a form of "cross rifling" or "spiral fluting" like many companys do to their forks, it allows for removal of material with out extensively weakening the tubes at weld/juction where strength is vital

Posted at 1:11 a.m. on May 29, 2009

its a good idea. but i'd leave the ends normal so that it doesn't act like a perforation and pull apart on the hash mark. keep up the good ideas

get off easterns ass they know what they are doing and they arent going to put out a bunch of products that are just going to break think about it.......they are us only with a sponsorship so they understand what its like to snap the out of your top tube in a heavy session they dont want to see that happen no matter what because then they have to listen to everyone complain and theyre sales will decrease

Posted at 12:26 a.m. on June 3, 2009

blim says...

I don't know why some guys think it will be on a traildigger. It clearly says "will be on our 2010 after-market frames and a few completes." That means it will be on the grim reapers, tramp..etc, etc, and higher end completes, I'm guessing ace of spades, assesino. Do you folks get the picture?.

Posted at 2:29 p.m. on June 9, 2009

Hayward says...

Ive been riding eastern products for a few years now from dragon 1 & 2 to grim reaper 1 & 2 and also had the TI Frame have a brand new assesino waiting but basically i love all of the products alwayas had top of the line parts never once broke anything. so they know what they are doing and just wish they would improve the rims they are just bad. Eastern make a dragon 3 with this tube design would be amazing :D

Ethan Nicosia says...

The reason it is stronger is because its an X pattern. Its proven that an X is the strongest structure possible. Many architects use it because of the strength and simplicity of it. I doubt it is just pressed in, and I'm sure the frames that have this will still be butted, because we all know how much Eastern focuses on weight. I'm looking forward to this design, and how it will play out.

Posted at 11:08 a.m. on June 12, 2009

Engineer dude says...

X isnt the strongest Science Boy, unless its an additional strut or brace in a weaker structure. A sphere is strongest, or a tube without any flaws comes second best. it looks to me that the x's are introducing flaws to the surface which means fracture points. Better to keep tubes fat with thin walls like those guys with the 22inch bikes are doing. Anything else is just fashion.

ummmm, i'm pretty sure this is the same tubing technique that ukbikeco used?!?

I love that Eastern are always trying something new and innovative. I don't get why people are ragging it out. Would you rather be riding the pieces of s#$t from years passed, ride one of those bad boys and lets talk about weight. Stop whinging like little bitches and go out and ride your bike
